Horse sweat and the skin's natural secretions have an intense odour that attracts flies, mosquitoes and other insects. The Too Fresh for Flies line masks that odour with a blend of essential oils, while Bite Relief balm is for caring for the skin after bites.
Too Fresh for Flies mist, cream or shampoo
The masking mist is the quickest form. It goes onto a dry coat in a few seconds with no washing, so it can be used just before training, a hack, a competition or turnout in the paddock on a hot day. The coat, mane and tail are sprayed from 20 to 30 cm away, avoiding the eyes and nostrils.
The masking cream has the same blend of 10 essential oils, but in a thicker form. It is applied by hand, so it comes in handy with horses that are stressed by the sound of a spray, and for spot application too. The thicker consistency stays on the coat for longer. The cream is easy to apply to the head and around the ears, as well as to the sheath and the udder.
For bathing there is the masking shampoo. During the bath it removes dirt and sweat from the coat and leaves a layer of essential oils on the hair. D-panthenol also moisturises the skin. The shampoo is applied to a damp coat, left on for about 5 minutes and rinsed off. With the cream and the shampoo, take care around the eyes and mucous membranes.
The products in the line can be combined. After a bath with the shampoo, once the coat is dry, the cream or the mist goes onto the areas that attract insects fastest: around the ears, the belly and the groin. How long the effect lasts varies with the horse and the weather, so on hot days and with heavy sweating the application is repeated. Each product needs a patch test before first use. The mist, cream and shampoo contain no doping substances.
Balm for after insect bites: Bite Relief
Bite Relief is a vegan balm for skin irritated by bites from flies, mosquitoes, blackflies and gadflies. It contains moisturising agents, vitamin A and peppermint and tea tree essential oils, and the peppermint oil gives a cooling effect. A small amount of the balm is applied with the fingertips to the cleaned bite and gently massaged in. The balm is not used on open wounds, and a patch test is done before first use.

The shampoo, mist and cream together with Bite Relief balm make up the Too Fresh for Flies kit, which also comes in a smaller version.
The daily diet in the warmer months can be complemented with the Too Fresh for Flies mineral lick. Garlic-based essential oils give it an intense aroma.
