Tack care

( number of products: 7 )

Caring for leather riding equipment always takes two steps. First the leather has to be cleaned, and only then oiled. Czyścioch is for the first step, and for the second there is Leather Oil saddle oil or Leather Grease saddle grease. All three Doctor Horse products are vegan, and together they make up the Equipment Cleaning and Care Kit.

Czyścioch for cleaning riding equipment

Czyścioch is 90% based on ingredients of natural origin. Its blend of soaps and a detergent deal with mud, dust, sweat and grease, so the product is suitable for saddles, bridles, reins, martingales and girths, as well as chaps, jodhpur boots and riding boots. Spray it onto the leather and wipe it with a damp cloth. Tougher stains need a little patience, because the product is then left on for a few minutes. The exception is raw, aniline, nubuck and suede leather, on which Czyścioch is not used.

Saddle oil and saddle grease

Leather Oil saddle oil is made from three plant oils of natural origin with vitamin E and contains no glycerine. It penetrates deep into the structure of the leather, nourishes it and helps limit drying out, cracking and stiffening. For the stable the tin with a brush is the better choice, as it stands steadily, and for travel the spray, which does not spill.

Thicker in consistency is Leather Grease saddle grease, in which plant oils and butters of natural origin are combined with petroleum jelly and paraffin. It forms a longer-lasting layer than the oil and protects the leather against moisture, drying out and mould. The oil, on the other hand, penetrates deeper but takes longer to absorb. The grease is spread thinly with the sponge supplied. Using it once a month is recommended, and equipment used every day or in damp conditions can be greased more often.

How often to oil a saddle and what not to oil

Before using oil or grease, the leather has to be cleaned and dried. The spray oil is not sprayed directly onto the saddle. It is sprayed onto a sponge or cloth, which is then used to spread it over the leather. A new saddle is conditioned with three applications of oil. After that it is enough to oil it every 4 to 6 months, or whenever the leather becomes stiff and hard. Bridles, reins, martingales and girths are oiled less often, no more than once a year.

Riding boots, jodhpur boots and chaps are a separate matter. Oil can soften their leather, and then the boots drop and lose their fit, which is why they are not oiled. The grease is not intended for footwear either. Leather boots are cleaned with Czyścioch only.
